About

While this is a journey that is already in progress, this will be the record of my endeavors.

My name is Joe and I’ve lived in the Phoenix are for about a year and a half. There’s so much to see and do in this area and it is about time that I become proactive in living my life to the fullest.

This blog will document my endeavors in losing weight and exploring my somewhat-new home.

When I moved to Phoenix, I was about 360 pounds. The reason for the move was simple. It was to start my life over. I packed my bags, left my school, and started fresh in Arizona.

After placing myself on a strict diet (utilized Slim Fast for the first part of it), the pounds started to come off! After a bit, i picked up some other activities. Work out video games, swimming, gym time, hiking, and running. I love trying new things! As I kept trying new things, I kept getting smaller.

As of November 2012, I am now 223 pounds. It isn’t my lightest since I started, but I’m now on the final push to break 200.

Here’s the before and current pictures.

The left is me the day before I left for Arizona. The right is me in mid October (1 month ago).

  6. wow!! amazing!! you are inspirational..I am trying to help my husband break the 100 kgs (sorry we do kgs in NZ, not pounds) mark, he has been see sawing between 101 and 108 for months!! Grrr. Frustrating….Keep up the great work:)

  7. Thanks! I’ve always wanted to visit NZ! I completely agree! It is frustrating at times.

  8. Wow! So impressed with your success – you look fantastic! I used to live in Phoenix about 6 years ago… I love all the fun and interesting outdoor activities… so many great hikes! I am looking forward to reading the continuation of your journey!

    • Thanks 🙂 What made you leave the area? I love it here, but already looking at the next move in about 2-3 years.

      • I’m from Texas and, at the time, I needed to relocate closer to my family. Now, I live in South Florida and I LOVE it….but I’m a beach bum! 🙂

      • Yay beach bums. I think I’ll be headed out there after a few years if I am able.

You look fantastic, your transformation is seriously impressive! Since you’re in Phoenix, have you ever done Pat’s Run?

    • Not yet, but my coworkers mentioned it a few months ago and I’m Hoping to do the next one.

You definitely should! And sign up soon, they’ve been selling out earlier each year. This April will be my 3rd trip out (from new york) to participate, it is a really spectacular event.

  10. Hey there! What an impressive site you have! And what amazing accomplishments! I am always inspired when I hear of stories like yours… I keep thinking I should try Insanity, but I always want to exercise outdoors… Anyway, I also stopped by to let you know that I linked to your site: Hope you don’t mind! Zemanta suggested your “climbing” story because I too was working on a story about climbing. A rock-climbing accident, actually. Anyway, rock on with your awesome adventure! I’ll be back by soon to see what you’re up to! 🙂

    • Oh my goodness! I just read that story and it sounded terrifying! I’m glad you’re alive 🙂 I’m looking to do more outdoors exercises once Phoenix heats back up. Think I’ll stick with water based sports.

      • Lol. I love water sports, too. Wakeboarding, skiing, swimming (I need to do more swimming…). I actually have family in Phoenix. I don’t know how you guys survive there during the summer! Anyway, congrats again on your own amazing accomplishment. And thanks for responding to my comment. 🙂

Hey Joe saw your before and after via 344 pounds email. Way to go! Keep up the excellent work. There are no magic potions and I think it’s just a lot of hard work. I too am counting calories and going to the gym. I started at 310 pounds and I’m currently at 260. Want to be 230. I’m going to add your blog to the list of blogs that inspires me.
